Groups up to 10-30 people gatherings in any outdoor space require a permit. To reduce the spread of COVID-19, CDC recommends that people wear cloth face coverings in public settings when around people outside of their household, especially when other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.
Picnic Shelter and Patio Rentals
The Park District has several designated areas available for groups to rent for your upcoming picnic, birthday party, or reunion in the park. Reservations are available at each location for a minimum of 3 hours. Reservations can only be made between the hours of 9am-8pm. Reservations begin 3/15 for dates 4/15-10-31 and can be booked 120 days in advance. Grilling is only allowed at designated adjacent grills where available. Check availability and make your reservation online.
General Use Permits
Small groups who would like to hold a casual event (such as a family picnic, birthday party, etc) in a park without a designated picnic area available may apply for a General Use Permit. This permit allows the group to gather in the park, but does not guarantee any specific space or feature within the park (everything remains open to the public on a first-come, first-serve basis) including athletic fields/courts, even if the purpose of the event listed on the application is for a pick-up game. Applicants wishing to hold an organized practice, game, etc. of any size must apply for an Athletic Field/Court Rental instead.
While this permit does not guarantee any specific space, it is required by Park District Code and does generally provide restroom access for groups when available as well as help to eliminate having conflicting groups in a park at the same time. Please note that this type of permit is not issued at parks where Picnic Reservations are available (currently Field Park and Taylor Park).
Group Size: Up to 30 individuals
Application Requirements: Completed General Use Permit Application & Application Fee ($10R/$25NR)
Permit Fee: None
