Picnic Areas and Shelters

At this time, we are not issuing any private event permits until Spring of 2021.  Our parks are open and we welcome patrons to visit and enjoy the outdoors as long as current CDC guidelines are followed.  Groups up to 50 people can congregate per CDC regulations in any given outdoor space.  To reduce the spread of COVID-19, CDC recommends that people wear cloth face coverings in public settings when around people outside of their household, especially when other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain. Reservations for picnic shelters pictured below can begin on March 15th, 2021 for dates April 15th - October 31st. Reservations can be made 120 days in advance starting March 15th.

In the meantime, usage of areas in the park is on a first come, first served basis.  You may gather in a park but you are not guaranteed any specific space or feature within the park.  If a Park District program or a Park District sports affiliate organization with an Athletic Field/Court Permit or Special Event Permit is present, that organization has the right to exclusive use of their permitted area and may ask your group and others to exit the field/court or other permitted area.

If your group plans to use any open courts or athletic fields during your visit, please be mindful of the recent weather conditions and the impact that play on wet grass can have.  We want to ensure that our fields remain as intact as possible throughout the entire season and appreciate your willingness to stay off of the fields during or after recent rain or other inclement weather.

Please note that restrooms are not available in all parks, at all times of day, and especially at all times of year.  While we try to do our best to provide access when and where it is feasible, we cannot guarantee restroom access for your group. All youth groups are expected to be properly chaperoned throughout the length of the event, including when using the restrooms.

The following are park rules to review prior to your visit:

  • Items such as hammocks, straps, etc. cannot be affixed to trees.
  • Nothing is to be staked into the ground.
  • Personal grills are prohibited in the parks.
  • Smoking is prohibited including vaping.
  • Alcohol is prohibited.
  • Bounce Houses are prohibited.
  • Profanity is prohibited.
  • Motorized flying objects such as drones are prohibited.
  • Dogs must be on leash.
  • We promote carry-in/carry-out in all of our parks for waste and recyclables. However, if necessary, please place litter in trash receptacles.
