Every February the Park District of Oak Park presents Community Service Awards to organizations and individuals in our community who have made a significant impact on parks and recreation in our community, improving the quality of life for all residents. This year’s recipients personify this spirit of commitment and dedication.
Gary Cuneen, Executive Director of Seven Generations Ahead and Plan It Green, helped the Park District’s secure a $100,000 grant from Green Mountain Energy for the addition of solar panels, water harvesting, bee hives and tea composting at the Oak Park Conservatory. He also helped the District secure tens of thousands of dollars in energy savings and reduced/free products from ComEd.
Frank Heitzman, Pleasant Home Foundation Board member, volunteered countless hours of architecture and design expertise to ensure the materials used and work completed for the Pleasant Home roof restoration project reflected the original roof design.
Renee Davis, Maria Kunigk, and Margaret Scully are figure skating moms who donated their time and talents to improve the District’s figure skating program through Ice Show scenery design and construction, volunteer recruitment as well as assisting with the Holiday Skate Exhibition and organizing a skate and equipment exchange.
It was an honor to recognize these community leaders at the February Park Board Meeting.
