Summer 2014 improvements to Longfellow Park are now complete and the park is open to the public. A community meeting was held in March 2014 to revisit the Longfellow Park master plan that was originally developed in 2007. (See more about the park planning process.) Residents were in support of the planned improvements including redeveloped ball field spectator and player areas with shade structures, a new winged backstop and fencing around the south end of the park. An irrigation system is already in place in the Longfellow field however some minor regrading will be completed as part of this Phase II renovation project. The Park District has scheduled these improvements to begin and be completed in August 2014. Phase III improvements, currently scheduled for 2017, include tennis court redevelopment to bring the courts to regulation size and new tennis court lighting.
