Scholarships

The Park District of Oak Park is dedicated to social equity and serving the parks and recreational needs of all Oak Park residents. Scholarship funds are available to assist low income individuals and families who choose to participate in Park District of Oak Park programs. The majority of these funds are provided by the Park District of Oak Park as well as funding from the Oak Park Township for children ages 9-17. The Park District has increased the amount of funds given by the scholarship program by over 300%. In 2012, the Park District served 72 households and distributed $9,947 in scholarship funds. By 2014, the Park District served 142 households and amount distributed increased to $32,804.

Scholarship funds can be used for all programs and passes offered by the Park District of Oak Park. (i.e. camps, classes, pool passes, trips). Funds are not eligible for equipment purchases or rental fees. An alternate scholarship opportunity is available for childcare purposes which includes summer camps, preschool/playschool, Team Gymnastics, travel house hockey and The Clubhouse afterschool program. Eligibility

Eligible individuals and families must satisfy the following criteria:

  1. Must be a resident of Oak Park of any age.
  2. Income must be within income guidelines specified coinciding with the free and reduced lunch program with District 97 schools. (See application for details)
  3. Activity attendance, pass usage, and conduct will be a consideration annually when granting funds to repeat families.
  4. Applicants must be able to provide proof of residency, income, and proof of dependents as defined on the application.

Funding Guidelines

Depending on your household size and income, up to 75% of fees may be granted. Up to $100 per Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter Season is available per person with a maximum of $600 per household per year.

Applications

Applications for the 2016 calendar year are now being accepted.  Print out a 2016 application or pick one up at: Ridgeland Common Recreation Complex at 415 Lake St. or the Gymnastics and Recreation Center at 21 Lake St.  All applications along with supporting eligibility documents can be accepted anytime during open customer service hours. Approved funding for the 2016 Scholarship year will be done in early January 2016.
