The Park District of Oak Park is dedicated to social equity and serving the parks and recreational needs of all Oak Park residents. Scholarship funds are available to assist low income individuals and families of all ages who choose to participate in Park District of Oak Park programs. The majority of these funds are provided by the Park District of Oak Park. Additional funding is received from the Oak Park Township and earmarked specifically for children ages 9-17. The Park District has increased the amount of funds given by the scholarship program by over 300%. In 2012, the Park District served 72 households and distributed $9,947 in scholarship funds. In 2017, the Park District served 203 households and awarded scholarships in the amount of $65,316.17.
The 2018 scholarship application is now available and guidelines are as follows. Scholarship funds can be used for all programs and passes offered by the Park District of Oak Park. (i.e. camps, classes, pool passes, trips, preschool, fitness, etc...). Funds are not eligible for equipment purchases or rental fees. Available funds for these programs are $300 maximum per person and can be used anytime during the calendar year toward qualifying registrations. Would you like to help support our program? Eligible individuals and families must satisfy the following criteria:
Must be a resident of Oak Park of any age.
Income must be within one of three defined income tiers as defined on the application. (tiers 1 and 2 coincide with the free and reduced lunch program with District 97 schools). See application for details
Activity attendance, pass usage, and conduct will be a consideration annually when granting funds to repeat families.
Applicants must be able to provide proof of residency, income, and proof of dependents as defined on the application.
2018 Funding Guidelines
Depending on your household size and income, qualifying households may get 75%, 55%, or 35% of fees covered toward registration fees up to $300 maximum per person with no maximum per household.
Applications for the 2018 calendar year are now being accepted. Approved funding for the 2018 Scholarship year will begin in early January 2018. You can turn in your completed application or pick one up at Ridgeland Common Recreation Complex, 415 Lake St. or the Gymnastics and Recreation Center, 21 Lake St.
All applications along with supporting eligibility documents can be accepted anytime during open customer service hours.
Oak Park River Forest Foundation Youth Engagement Scholarship (YES) Program
The Park District of Oak Park has received additional scholarship funds from the Oak Park River Forest Community Foundation through the YES (Youth Engagement Scholarship) program for youth ages 5 to 16 years old attending summer camp. To apply for these funds, please visit Ridgeland Common Recreation Complex, 415 Lake Street, or the Gymnastics and Recreation Center, (21 Lake Street) to complete an application. Applicants must provide a free or reduced lunch letter or most recent tax returns. It will take up to two weeks to receive notice of scholarship award once an application has been submitted. Approved applicants can be awarded up to $300 in additional scholarship funds.
