Description

The Gymnastics and Recreation Center offers instructional programs that provide an opportunity for children of all ages to enjoy gymnastics from preschool programs to competitive levels. Comparable to any private club, the GRC can meet the needs of any new or experienced gymnast. View more information about the gymnastics programs offered by the Park District on the Gymnastics Programs page. In addition to gymnastics, the GRC offers  two multi-purpose rooms on the second floor for recreation programs and birthday parties.

History

The Oak Park Gymnastics Center (OPGC) opened in 1988 when it became necessary to find a place to house the expanding tumbling programs that had grown among the community centers. From 1988 to 2013 the OPGC was located at 218 Madison. The Park District of Oak Park has planned for several years to relieve overcrowding at the District’s 218 Madison facility, which houses the District’s gymnastics center, buildings and grounds operations and administrative offices. In October 2011, the Park District purchased the former Aldi grocery store at 25 Lake Street for the relocation of the Oak Park Gymnastics Center. Construction began in October 2012. In October of 2013,  the newly-named Gymnastics and Recreation Center opened at 21 W Lake Street. Learn more information about this project on the Gymnastics & Recreation Center Construction page.
